  7.     In his heyday, JAMES BROWN was bigger than life, whether on
  8. a wall or in person. But for the past 16 months the "godfather
  9. of soul" has been in a South Carolina slammer for a 1988
  10. conviction on assault and other charges. This week he'll start
  11. in a work-release program at a community center, where one of
  12. his tasks will be to speak out against drug use. Nights, he'll
  13. return to a nearby minimum-security facility. He's eligible for
  14. parole in 1991, but that's not soon enough for the feisty Free
  15. James Brown campaign.
